4 million stem cells and counting...

Dad went up to the hospital today to get tests done to see if he was ready to start collecting stem cells.  Things all looked good so they started collecting.  After all was said and done they ended up with over 4 million cells, only 16 million more to go.  They say that each day they will get more and more, or that is how it happens most of the time.  Today he also had to receive 1 unit of blood, tomorrow he will be doing the same thing but will probably receive 2 units of blood.  The whole process takes a lot of time, but everyone is positive and things are looking good.  Dad will be going up to the hospital everyday to collect until he has reached the lucky number.  As soon as he reaches the 20 million they said he will have two weeks off and then the transplant will take place.  We will keep everyone posted.  Thanks again for all the love to dad and everyone of us!

  1. It is good to hear things are progressing for Doug. Maybe there is a light at the end of the tunnel???

The blog is so nice to keep in touch with what is happening. The picture of Doug was great!!! Thanks.

At the risk of sounding a bit "preachy", and I hope you will forgive me if I do.....Norm and I have been in a situation remotely similar to this and we could not have made it through without our family and friends. We relied on them a lot....expecially me. Your mom is going to need you, so it is so important for you to take care of yourselves too!!!!

There are tons of us out here who love you and your parents. Please don't hesitate to let someone know if you have a need, or if we can help in any way. Forgive us if we ask, and keep asking!!!!

Please give your mom and dad a huge hug and tell them it is from Norm and Frances.

    Love to you all!!!!
